Security Advisories for Friendica

24. March 2023

The usd HeroLab analysts examined the Friendica application while conducting their security analyses. It is an open source software to set up a decentralized social network. The focus is on effective privacy settings and interoperability with other services.

While conducting the security analysis, two cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities and one CSRF vulnerability were identified. By exploiting one of the XSS vulnerabilities in combination with the CSRF vulnerability, it was possible to gain access to an administrator account.

The vulnerabilities were reported to the vendor under the Responsible Disclosure Policy and subsequently fixed. Detailed information about these three advisories can be found here.
